LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven baseball pitching staff stifled visiting Clarion in game one to earn a 2-1 victory in the opening game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader on Thursday at Watkins Field. The Bald Eagles fell 7-4 in game two, earning a split on the day.

With the split, the Bald Eagles move to 16-30 on the season and 6-19 in the Western Division. Clarion is now 22-25 overall and 10-16 in the conference.

Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 2, Clarion 1
The Bald Eagles' pitching was lights out in game one, as
Garrett Starr,
Brady Myers and
Jace Szaflarski combined for seven innings pitched and allowed just one run.
Â
Starr got the start in the opener and went five-complete innings, while scattering six hits and surrendering one run. Starr's work on the mound secured the lefty his sixth victory.

Myers took over in the top of the sixth and shut the Golden Eagles to earn the hold.
Â
Szaflarski shut the door in the seventh to earn his sixth save of the season.

The Bald Eagles scored both of their runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI-singles from
Joseph DeSiena and Morgan Billotte.

Zachary McEllroy and
Ethan Nagy both finished with multiple hits.

Game 2 Recap: Clarion 7, Lock Haven 4
In game two, the Bald Eagles allowed four runs in the top of the second to dig an early hole.

However, the group stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the third to cut their deficit to 4-3. During the rally, Lock Haven belted out five hits, including a double by
Robert Furino (RBI) and RBI singles from Nagy and DeSiena.

However, Clarion wasn't done, and responded with three runs on three hits in the top of the seventh to ultimately put the game away.

Nagy (2-for-4),
Stephen McMillan(2-for-3), Furino and
Tom Rohan (2-for-2) all recorded doubles.
Bryce Vincent and DeSiena also recorded multiple hits.

Jaso Labrador got the ball in game two for The Haven and pitched six quality innings, allowing three earned ones and struck out a game-high 10 hitters.

The Bald Eagles will travel to Clarion tomorrow afternoon (Friday, May 2) for a 12 p.m. PSAC West road doubleheader.
