Volleyball goes 1-1 on Day 1 of the Bald Eagle Classic

The Bald Eagles welcomed four visiting schools to Thomas Fieldhouse on Friday for day one of the Bald Eagle Classic

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven volleyball team split its matches on Friday (Sept. 19) on day one of the Bald Eagle Classic, hosted by Lock Haven, inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
The Bald Eagles downed Glenville State 3-0 and fell to Edinboro 3-1.
 
The Bald Eagle Classic is a two-day event hosted by Lock Haven and features Glenville State, Goldey-Beacom, Edinboro and Bloomsburg. Results for each match can be found at LockHavenAthletics.com.

Following the action, Lock Haven is now 2-6 overall on the season.
 
Lock Haven vs. Glenville State: 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-16)
In the opening match of the tournament, Lock Haven soared past Glenville State with a convincing 3-0 sweep.
 
The Haven led 59-32 in total points, behind match-highs in kills (43-27), aces (9-2), blocks (7-3) and digs (61-46).
 
The Bald Eagles had a positive hit percentage in all three sets, while their cleanest set game in the third when they finished with just two errors.
 
Maddie Mitchell led Lock Haven with 13 kills, adding five digs and one ace for a match-high 15 points.
 
Maddy Fox contributed a .600 hitting percentage, tallying seven kills without a hitting error. Wolzen added nine kills.
 
Madelyn Wagner orchestrated the offense with 29 assists and chipped in seven digs. Natalie Acevedo anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs.
 
Lock Haven vs. Edinboro: 1-3 (24-26, 14-25, 25-18, 19-25)
In the final match of the day vs. Edinboro, the Bald Eagles dropped the first two sets, including a heartbreaker, 26-24, in the opening set.
 
The Haven bounced back with a convincing 25-18 win in the second set to extend the match.  
 
However, Edinboro won the fourth set to take the match.
 
Mitchell led Lock Haven with 16 kills and contributed one ace and seven digs, making her the team's most consistent attacking threat.
 
Gracelynn Wolzen registered 11 kills and a solo block, while Lola Coulter chipped in 10 kills.
 
Defensively, Nicholson and Olivia Taylor each posted 11 digs, helping anchor the back row. Wagner set up the offense with 21 assists, and Gabby Gealey added nine.
 
Next Up
The Haven hosts the final day of the Bald Eagle Classic and action will kick off inside Thomas Fieldhouse at 10 a.m. The Bald Eagles lone match of the day is the final contest of the tournament at 2 p.m. against Goldey-Beacom.
