Baseball splits with UPJ on the road

The Bald Eagles wrapped up their PSAC West series with UPJ by splitting on the road on Friday

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – For the second straight day, the Lock Haven baseball team split with Pitt-Johnstown after winning game one 5-1 and falling in game two 8-3 on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West twinbill.

Lock Haven split with UPJ at home yesterday, winning game one 14-9 and falling in game two 12-9.

Game 1: Lock Haven 5, UPJ 1
The Bald Eagles took game one 5-1 behind a dominant pitching performance from Andrew Kramer.

Kramer went the distance and allowed just one run on seven hits, while racking up five strikeouts.

The Haven racked up 11 hits and were led by 3-for-4 showings from Braden Cummings and Zachary McEllroy and a home run by Nick Negola.

Lock Haven kicked off the scoring with a Negola's solo homer in the second, before plating three runs in the top of the third on RBIs by Robert Furino and Gardner Fravel.

The Bald Eagles added an insurance run in the fourth, while UPJ's lone run came in the bottom half of the inning.

Game 2: UPJ 8, Lock Haven 3
Lock Haven struck first in the opening frame after Cayden McCloskey singled in Cummings.

However, UPJ answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the first, before adding three more runs over the third and fourth innings to jump out in front 4-1.

UPJ put up another crooked number in the sixth after rallying for four runs to go up 8-1 and ultimately put the game out of reach.

The Haven rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in its final at-bats thanks to a two-run double by McEllroy.

McEllroy (2B, 2 RBI), McCloskey (RBI) and Cayden Robertson all finished with two hits.

Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles will finish their shortened game at Clarion on Tuesday, April 28 at 1 p.m. with the Golden Eagles leading 5-0 in the third inning.
