LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven field hockey team took down Colgate, 3-2, in a non-conference battle at Charlotte Smith Field on Friday afternoon.
 
With the victory, Lock Haven improves to 2-2 on the year and 2-1 at home, while Colgate falls to 3-2. Under first-year head coach Valerie Clark, the Bald Eagles have matched their win total from 2025 through just four games.
 
Lock Haven built a 2-0 halftime advantage, then answered a Colgate third-quarter goal with a penalty-stroke conversion early in the fourth before holding off a late Raider rally.
 
Maddy Huston opened the scoring at the 12:52 mark of the first quarter. Aubrey Richards set up Huston for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 Lock Haven lead.
 
The Bald Eagles doubled the advantage late in the second quarter when Melanie Beall scored at 22:57. Maddie Friend assisted on Beall's goal, sending Lock Haven into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Colgate pressed to begin the second half and cut the deficit to one in the third quarter.
 
Lock Haven responded less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. Friend converted a penalty stroke at 46:39 for her fourth goal of the season, restoring the Bald Eagles' two-goal lead at 3-1.
Colgate drew within one with 1:58 remaining, but Lock Haven's defense closed out the final minutes to secure the non-conference victory.
 
Friend finished with a goal and an assist, while Huston and Beall each found the back of the cage. Richards added an assist.
 
Goalkeeper Quinty van Luijk made six saves in all 60 minutes for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles registered 14 shots, including 11 on goal, and held Colgate to two goals despite the Raiders earning 14 penalty corners.
 
Rylee Wassmer led Lock Haven with three shots, all on goal. Beall added three shots and two shots on cage, while Friend placed both of her attempts on goal.
