SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Lock Haven men's soccer team scored twice in the opening half and earned a 2-2 draw on the road against Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the draw, Lock Haven moved to 2-3-5 overall and 1-1-1 in PSAC West play, while Slippery Rock moved to 2-3-4 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, but the Bald Eagles needed just 32 seconds to respond.
Joshua Horn found the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.
Evan Jennings and
Billy Lawrence combined to set up the equalizer.
The Bald Eagles continued to apply pressure and took their first lead of the afternoon in the 33rd minute.
Nicholas McGhin struck off an assist from
Kade Black, giving Lock Haven a 2-1 advantage it carried into halftime.
Lock Haven controlled much of the attacking play in the opening 45 minutes and held a commanding 10-3 advantage in shots while earning all three of the first-half corner kicks.
Slippery Rock increased the pressure following the break and eventually pulled even in the 67th minute to make it 2-2.
The Rock pushed for the go-ahead goal down the stretch, but goalkeeper
Reece Kordes and the Lock Haven defense held firm. Kordes made all four of his saves in the second half, including three stops during a strong stretch of Slippery Rock pressure following the equalizer.
Lock Haven finished with a 14-10 advantage in total shots, while Slippery Rock held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. Horn and McGhin accounted for the Bald Eagles' two shots on goal and both found the back of the net.
