WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 4 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (15-2) used a 15-7 win over East Stroudsburg University (10-8) to help the Lady Eagles advance to tomorrow's PSAC Championship game with rival and No. 6 West Chester.
Lock Haven will be looking to cap off the three-peat as they've defeated West Chester in the last two PSAC title contests. This will be the sixth consecutive year where LHU and WCU have met for the conference title.
The Haven defeated a feisty East Stroudsburg team this afternoon, thanks in large part to a sensational individual effort from
Allison Berger (Oreland, Pa./Springfield), who turned in a nine-point effort.
Berger scored six goals and added three assists.
Jamie Uzialko (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and
Chelsea Borrino (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) both scored two goals for Lock Haven.
The Lady Eagles other five goals came from five different players including
Elyse Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), who had one goal and two assists.
Lock Haven jumped all over the Warriors early and led 4-0 less than 10 minutes into the match.
The Haven's quick start led LHU to a 7-4 halftime lead.
Kayleigh Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored less than three minutes into the second half to make it 8-4, but two quick East Stroudsburg goals cut The Haven lead to two at 8-6.
ESU's two goals sparked a Haven run and LHU went on to net the next six goals to take a commanding 14-6 lead.
Once again, LHU combined its solid offensive game with another strong defensive outing.
Goalie
Heather Sacko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) made six saves on the back line to lead the way.
The duo of
Katie Zichelli (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) and
Clare Gaeng (Frederick, Md./Thomas Governor Johnson) were also tough.
Zichelli caused three turnovers and grabbed four ground balls. Gaeng had two caused turnovers to go along with two ground balls.
East Stroudsburg was led by Jamie Wesztergrom's three goals.
West Chester won today's first semifinal match as the Golden Rams downed No. 12 Mercyhurst College 10-7.
Claire Grimwood and Tori Dugan both netted hat tricks for West Chester.
Meryhurst's Laura Trenti scored three goals to lead the Lakers.
