LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 2 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (12-0, 8-0 PSAC) saw the offense explode and defense stiffen as the Lady Eagles overpowered rival and ninth-ranked Mercyhurst College (8-4, 4-3 PSAC) 17-1 today in conference action.
Lock Haven jumped out an 11-1 halftime lead and shutout the visiting Lakers 6-0 in the second half on the way to the lopsided PSAC win.
The Lady Eagles combined their 17-goal explosion with another sensational defensive effort that shutdown any Lakers charge.
Lock Haven's defense caused 10 MC turnovers and LHU outshot the Lakers 34-15.
Three different Lady Eagles netted hat tricks, including
Elyse Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson), who netted all three of her goals in the opening half.
She put LHU up 1-0 just 59 seconds into the match after collecting a pass from
Allison Berger (Oreland, Pa./Springfield).
Lock Haven went up 3-0 before Anna LeGrett scored the Lakers only goal at the 22:13 mark of the first half.
Eight different players scored for LHU including Berger and Jamie Uzialko (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), who each netted three goals apiece.
Berger also had two assists.
Kayleigh Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded a six-point game. She netted two goals and dished out a game-high four assists.
Clare Gaeng (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) was dominate for LHU today on defense. She had four ground balls and caused one turnover.
Katie Zichelli (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) was one of three Lady Eagles with two caused turnovers.

Heather Sacko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) made six saves on the way to her 11th win of the season.
Nicole Necci (Jackson, N.J./Jackson) made two fantastic stops in the last 12:55 of the contest.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. when the Lady Eagles host No. 7 West Chester in a battle of the PSAC's only two unbeaten teams.
