MURFREESBORO, N.C.  – The Lock Haven University baseball team (1-1) opened the 2016 season today with a doubleheader split with Chowan University (2-8) in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

LHU won game one 7-3, but fell in extra innings in game two, 6-5.

Lock Haven rallied late to pick up the win in game one.

The Bald Eagles trailed 2-1 in the sixth inning before The Haven took its first lead of the game when they scored two runs off of a Chowan error.

LHU added four crucial insurance runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-RBI single by
Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock).

Parker Watson (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) earned the win on the mound with a solid outing for LHU. Watson allowed two runs, one earned while scattering eight hits in six innings of work. He struck out seven in the win.

Matt Lahn (Georgetown, Ont./Erie Community College) went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to lead The Haven at the plate.

Evan McFarland (Cottonwood, Ariz./Gateway Community College) went 2-for-4 with a double.
Â
Moore was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Game 2 Recap: 6-5 (8 innings)Â
Lock Haven's bats remained hot right out of the gate in game two. The Bald Eagles scored four runs on six hits in the first inning, thanks to a grand slam by Lahn.

Chowan battled back, however and the Bald Eagles were held scoreless over the final four innings. Chowan ended up tying the game at 5-5 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and the Hawks won the game in the bottom of the eighth off of a Bald Eagle error.

Mike Anthony (Audubon, Pa./North Hampton Community College) started on the mound and pitched 4.2 solid innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and struck out six.

Justin Sleigh (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Â
Moore was 2-for-4 in the game.

Lock Haven and Chowan will square off again tomorrow (Sunday, February 28) in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. (noon).
