MURFREESBORO, N.C.  – For the second straight day, the Lock Haven University baseball team (2-2) split a doubleheader with Chowan University (3-9) in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

LHU mounted a late-inning rally in game one, but came up just short, dropping the day's opener 8-7.

The Bald Eagles found their form in game two.Â
Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) threw a gem on the mound and The Haven smacked 18 hits on the way to a 16-3 win.

LHU trailed 8-4 heading into its final at bat of the game and almost pulled off a sensational comeback.

Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh and drove a three RBI double into the left-center field gap to cut the deficit to just one, 8-7.

LHU was unable to bring Szaflarski, the tying run home, however.

Szaflarski was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the game.

Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) went 1-for-3 with a homerun and two RBIs.

Matt Lahn (Georgetown, Ont./Erie Community College) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) took the loss on the mound. He struck out seven in 4.1 innings of work.

Lock Haven found its form in game two. The Bald Eagles' 16 runs were the most LHU has scored in a game since they scored 16 on February 21, 2014 against Bloomsburg.

Manuppelli, who was making his first career start as a Bald Eagle, was outstanding. He nearly went the distance, throwing 6.2 innings before finally allowing the Hawks to score. He allowed five hits and struck out nine.

Eight different Bald Eagles had multiple hits in the game.

Justin Sleigh (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs.

Szaflarski was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.Â
Evan McFarland (Cottonwood, Ariz./Gateway Community College) also drove in three in the win.

Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, March 5 when the Bald Eagles kick off their annual spring break trip. LHU will be playing nine games over the spring break trip in North Carolina.
