LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Despite a cold and blustery afternoon at Charlotte E. Smith Field, the Bald Eagles offense was firing on all cylinders and the No. 15 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (2-0) rolled to a dominating 22-2 victory over the University of Findlay (1-4) today in non-conference action.
Lock Haven moved to 2-0 on the young season after another explosive game from the Bald Eagles potent offensive unit. Through two games, LHU is outscoring opponents 40-7.
Leading the way today was once again the dynamic duo of
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and
Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa./Rutgers) as the two combined for 19 points. Bissnette scored two goals and dished out eight assists, while Engler scored eight goals and added an assist.
LHU led 14-2 at halftime and shutout Findlay 8-0 in the second half. The Bald Eagles outshot UF 40-7 in 60 minutes of action.
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) netted four goals and
Katie Costanza (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) recorded a hat trick.
Ashley Gochenaur (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored twice, while
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown),
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and
Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Austrailia/St. Mary Anglican) all tallied one goal in the win.
LHU's defense was sensational as well as the Bald Eagles pitched a second-half shutout and forced 20 total turnovers. Goalkeepers
Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock) and
Lauren Marte (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) combined for four saves.
After two straight home games to open the 2017 season – both wins – Lock Haven will hit the road for a pair of games in North Carolina. On Wednesday, March 15, LHU will play at Lenoir-Rhyne (4 p.m.), before heading to No. 8 Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, March 17 (3 p.m.).
