LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Charley Molnar, a 1984 Lock Haven graduate and former Bald Eagle football player has been named the new head coach at the University of Massachusetts.
Molnar began his coaching career at Lock Haven from 1984-1986 where he worked with the wide receivers, tight ends, running backs and kickers.
In 1983, following his senior season at LHU, Molnar earned the Ross E. Nevel Jr. Unsung Hero Award.
Molnar has spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame where he helped the team to an 8-4 record in 2011 earning them an appearance in the Champ Sports Bowl.
In 2010 he helped Notre Dame reach a record of 8-5 which earned them an appearance in the Sun Bowl.
Prior to Notre Dame, Molnar spent four seasons coaching under current Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly at both Cincinnati and Central Michigan.
Molnar will be the 29
th head coach in UMass history.
