FARMVILLE, Va. –
The Lock Haven University field hockey team picked up its first win of the season after taking down host Longwood University 2-1 today.

With the win, the Lady Eagles rebounded from yesterday's season-opening 4-3 loss to Radford and improve to 1-1 on the young season.

Despite being outshot 16-6, LHU jumped out a 2-0 halftime lead and played solid defense in the second half of play to secure the victory.

Nicole Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) helped the Lady Eagles jumped all over Longwood early as she scored just 1:51 into the contest.

Less than four minutes later Kelsie Minnich (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) knocked home a rebound to make it 2-0, as The Haven's offense was rolling early.

Longwood struck early in the second half, but LHU got a solid effort from goalie Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown, Pa./Norristown), who made four saves to preserve the win.

The Lady Eagles home-opener is set for Friday, September 2 at 7 p.m. when they play host to local rival and eighth ranked Penn State.
