Bald Eagles fall at DI Fordham in 2012 season-opener

Linebackers Tashawn Bunch and James Goins lead LHU defensively

BRONX, N.Y.  – The Lock Haven University football team (0-1) fell in its 2012 season-opener tonight 55-0 at Division I (FCS) Fordham University at Jack Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y.

Fordham led 21-0 after the first quarter after scoring on three of its first four possessions. The Rams took the game's opening drive 67 yards. Quarterback Ryan Higgins capped off the nine-play drive with a 10-yard run scamper into the end zone.

Fordham used a two-quarterback system to open the game and backup Michael Nebrick rushed for a pair of touchdowns.

LHU settled down defensively in the second quarter, forcing a pair of fumbles, both of which The Haven recovered.

The Rams added a second-quarter touchdown and led 28-0 at halftime.

James Goins (Marion Heights, Pa./Mount Carmel) led Lock Haven's defensive effort after a monster first half performance. During the first half he had four tackles and two sacks. He finished with six total tackles.

Freshman Tashawn Bunch (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), who made his first career start at linebacker was quite impressive for LHU.

Bunch finished with seven total tackles and a sack on the night.

Jarrett Kratzer (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) got the start under center and was 9-for-20 for 71 yards.

Junior tailback Brandon Brader (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had 18 carries for 48 yards on the night.

The Bald Eagles hit the road next weekend (Saturday, September 8) to take on East Stroudsburg at 6:05.

Game Notes:

R-Sr. QB Jarrett Kratzer made his 14th career start.

This was the first ever meeting between LHU and Fordham.

Tonight marked the 10th time since 2002, where LHU opened with a DI team. It was the sixth time it came in a season opener.

Tailback Brandon Brader went over 1,200 yards for his career.

Fordham's Michael Martin led all players with nine tackles in the game.

Fordham's backup QB Michael Nebrich was instrumental in four Ram TDs. He rushed for three and passed for one.

Fordham had 530 total yards of offense compared to LHU's 152.
