Last week, Brader rushed for over 100 yards in a game for the eighth time in his career. On the season, he has 768 yards (76.8/game) and five rushing TDs.
Herko's streak:
Last Saturday, senior offensive guard
Anthony Herko, a two-time All-PSAC selection started his 33
rd straight game. Herko was recently invited to play in the 2013 D2 vs. NAIA Senior Bowl (Dec. 21) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
White nominated for Gene Upshaw Award:
Senior defensive tackle
Kyle White has been nominated for the 2013 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year award. White, a senior-captain has started all 10 games thus far for Lock Haven. He is 11
th on the team in total tackles with 36 (24 solo tackles & 12 assisted tackles) White has recorded 4.5 tackles for a loss on the year, one sack and has one pass break up.
Christas nominated for Cliff Harris Award:
Junior defensive back George Christas has been nominated for the inaugural Cliff Harris Award, which goes to the nation's top small college defensive player of the year. Christas leads LHU in both tackles (76) and interceptions (4). His 7.6 tackles per game are the 16
th most in the PSAC and he's 11
th in the league in sacks.
Boumerhi kicks himself into the record book:
Haven kicker
Alex Boumerhi, a sophomore has been nothing short of sensational this season. In the win over Millersville his 48-yard field goal set a school record for longest in history. On the year, he's 9-of-13 (69.2 percent). Statistically he's the third-most accurate kicker in the PSAC -even more remarkable is his 5-for-6 mark on field goals from 40-49 yards.
Walton & Mazzoni under center:
Both
Dillon Mazzoni and
Caleb Walton have given Lock Haven a strong presence under center this year. Mazzoni started the six games of the season, but hadn't played since Week 6 when he took to the field last weekend vs. Kuztown. On the year, he's thrown for seven TDs.
Walton has made four straight starts and has thrown for 1,081 yards and seven TDs. In the win over Millersville he became the first Bald Eagle play-caller since 1995 to pass for four touchdowns in a game.
Hoover's 12 TDs:
Senior wideout
Jesse Hoover has three TD catches this year, stretching his career total to 12 – which ties him for eighth on Lock Haven's all-time list.
Options out wide:
Eight different players have caught TD passes this season for Lock Haven, including
Jesse Hoover and
James Wilbern, who have both hauled in three.
D-FENCE:
Lock Haven's defense has been tough all year, particularly against the pass early in the season. LHU's 14 interceptions are the third-most in the PSAC.
Tony Ballon adds 73 tackles on the year and
Tyrek Morgan had a team-best six sacks. Morgan's ranked 13
th in the PSAC in sacks.
Another streak snapped:
Lock Haven's Week 8 win at Millersville marked Lock Haven' first road win since 2007. It snapped a 30-game road-losing streak.
PSAC East:
This marked the first season in history where LHU played in the PSAC Eastern Division – LHU moved to the East after the July additions of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown.
Crossover action:
Saturday marks Lock Haven's third PSAC Crossover game of the year. LHU lost to Clarion in Week 2 and lost to Edinboro in Week 5. Next season, Lock Haven is scheduled to play Seton Hill, IUP and Mercyhurst in crossover play.
Winning ways:
When LHU won its season-opener at home vs. West Virginia State (Sept. 7) 31-13, it marked back-to-back wins for The Haven. LHU hadn't won two straight since back-to-back wins over Cheyney and Mansfield in 2002. Prior to the win over Cheyney last year, Lock Haven's last win was the 2007 season-finale at Clarion. The 2012 season-ending win snapped a 52 game losing skid. The Haven's last winning season was 1981.
Moving in the right direction:
Already with three wins on the year and nowhere else to go, but up, the Bald Eagles continue to move forward under third-year head coach
John Allen. Lock Haven hadn't recorded two wins in year since 2006. In '06, LHU beat Mansfield and Cheyney. The 2004 season was the last time LHU recorded three wins in a season. Now the Bald Eagles are 3-7 with one game remaining. Allen is now 4-27 as head coach.
2013 Captains:
Lock Haven's 2013 Fred Caro Team Captains are senior defensive tackle
Kyle White, senior running back
Brandon Brader, senior wide receiver
Jesse Hoover and junior defensive back George Christas. Fred Caro, a 1958 Lock Haven graduate was captain of the 1957 Bald Eagle football team that went undefeated (8-0) and won the PSAC Championship. Caro also wrestled and competed on the track & field team at Lock Haven. He was part of Lock Haven's inaugural football Hall of Fame class in 2010.
With heavy hearts:
When the Bald Eagles take the field this season, it will be with heavy hearts. On Saturday, March 23 senior
Skyler Wool died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Wool, a Jersey Shore, Pa. native was a 2012 Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 Team member, a two-time All-PSAC selection and a two-time Gene Upshaw Division II Linemen of the Year award nominee. The Bald Eagles will wear a commemorative decal with Wool's jersey number (92) on the back of their helmets during the 2013 season in honor of their former teammate and captain.
