Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team swept rival and visiting Bloomsburg today in a crucial late-season PSAC Central series at Lawrence Field.
Lock Haven (28-8, 11-1 PSAC Central) beat Bloomsburg (24-14, 8-4 PSAC Central) 2-1 and 7-6.
The sweep helped the Lady Eagle remain atop the PSAC standings. Going into the final weekend of play with an away-series at Mansfield on Friday and home-series with IUP on Saturday, Lock Haven holds a three-game lead on Mansfield and Bloomsburg, who are both 8-4 in Central Division action.
A huge part of the story today was senior
Bridgette Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia), who's two-run home run was the difference maker in the first game. She also etched her name into the LHU record books in game two, as her double in the fifth inning marked the 42nd double of her career, breaking the all-time Lady Eagle career record.
Clarke has 14 doubles on the year and is just three away from breaking the single-season record.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning of game one, Clarke drilled a ball over the right field fence to put LHU up for good.
LHU's two runs came off eight hits including two from
Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), who was 2-for-3.
Pitcher
Brianna Jennings (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing) recorded her 20th win of the year in game one.
In game two, LHU held on for a 7-6 win. The Lady Eagles plated all seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Alyssa Smith (Barrington, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
