Women’s basketball falls to East Stroudsburg in home opener, 87-74

Sami Lane leads LHU with season-high 20 points

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (0-3, 0-1 PSAC East) fell to visiting East Stroudsburg University (1-0, 1-0 PSAC East), 87-74 in the home-opener on the PSECU Court at Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) led the Lady Eagles with a season-high 20 points in 33 minutes of action.
 
East Stroudsburg held Lock Haven scoreless for the first five minutes of regulation as LHU trailed, 10-0 before the first timeout.
 
Lane sparked The Haven attack with two free throws to put LHU on the board, 10-2.
 
Lock Haven battled back to trail ESU, 41-36 at the break.
 
The Lady Eagles opened the second half with seven points in the first two minutes of play to trail The Warriors, 45-43.
 
Lane continued to be a threat on the court netting six points in 16 minutes to rally the Haven attack.
 
East Stroudsburg fought to keep the lead and pulled away with an, 87-74 victory.
 
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) delivered an all-around performance netting a season-high 18 points. Moyer led LHU defensively with nine rebounds and two steals.  She dished out two assists in 33 minutes of action.
 
Kirsti Bair (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) recorded a breakout game for the LHU as she netted a career-high 11 points in 23 minutes.  Bair grabbed eight rebounds and shot 62.5% from the free throw line.
 
Senior Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) grabbed six rebounds in 28 minutes. 
 
LHU scored 30 points in the paint and tallied 21 points off forced turnovers.  LHU shot 63.16% from the free throw line in the second half of the game.
Ryann Fiascki led East Stroudsburg with 24 points in 29 minutes. 
 
The Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday (Nov. 22) when LHU hosts Caldwell (5 p.m.) in non-conference play.
