EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (0-4, 0-3 PSAC East) opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action today with a 48-21 loss at East Stroudsburg University (3-1, 2-1 PSAC East).
Â
The Bald Eagles defense once again came up big and Lock Haven struck early, but it wasn't enough to steal the win on the road.
Â
On just the third play from scrimmage, LHU defensive back
George Christas (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) intercepted Matt Soltes's pass and returned in 36 yards to the ESU 10-yard line, setting up the Bald Eagles offense in the red zone.
Â
Three plays after Christas's interception, quarterback
Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) hit tight end
Matt Luebbers (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) on a five-yard pass to put Lock Haven 7-0 just minutes into the game.
Â
The Warriors however, responded in a big way and scored the next 41 points of the game on the way to the win.
Â
For the second game in a row, Christas led all players in tackles. He made 12 today to go along with
Mike Williams's (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) 11. Both Christas and Williams have 36 tackles on the season, which ranks them in the top-10 among all PSAC players in tackles-per-game.
Â
Walton finished 16-for-37 passing for 195 yards and a season-high three touchdowns.
Â
David Cook (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and
Bernard Smack (State College, Pa./Shippensburg Univ.) added TD catches for Lock Haven.
Â
It marked Cook's third straight game with a touchdown reception and Smack finished with four catches for 53 yards to lead all LHU receivers today.
Â
Beau Swales (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards.
Â
Lock Haven heads to No. 10 West Chester next Saturday, October 4 for a noon kickoff.
