LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team closed the 2015 season today (Sunday, November 1) with a 1-0 loss to visiting Virginia Commonwealth (6-12, 3-5 A-10) in Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action.
With the loss, LHU finishes the season with 15-5 overall record. Lock Haven was 3-5 in A-10 action.
LHU also took time today to honor its four graduating seniors –
Rachel Valentine (Souderton, Pa./Souderton),
Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell),
Brittany Harlos (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley) and
Maddie Wagenfeld).
At halftime today, LHU honored several members of the 2000 NCAA Division II National Championship team, whom were in attendance. 2015 marks the 15
th anniversary of LHU's seventh National Championship.
The 2000 squad went 21-2 and was a perfect 8-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship. Lock Haven beat Bentley 2-0 in the National Title game. The 2000 National Championship marked LHU's seventh total National Championship.
After the game, LHU honored its four seniors and their amazing contributions to the program. Lock Haven's 15 wins this year are the most since the Bald Eagles won 15 in 2010. The senior class won 52 games for The Haven.
LHU outshot VCU 14-5 for the game and held a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners, but the Bald Eagles couldn't sneak one by the Rams' goalkeeper.
VCU scored the only goal of the match in the 23
rd minute of play.
The sport of field hockey was established at LHU in 1945, making 2015 the 70th season of LHU history. Lock Haven has enjoyed a rich history, which includes seven total National Championships. In 70 years, LHU claimed 25 different conference championships (PSAC & NEC, both regular season & tournament). The Bald Eagles have crowned nearly 90 All-American players and over 150 All-Conference players, among various other prestigious honors in 70 years.
