LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swimming team hosted Wilkes University and fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe East Stroudsburg in a double dual in the Bald Eagles home opener as part of the Homecoming weekend festivities. Lock Haven beat Wilkes 158-43, but fell to East Stroudsburg 126-78.
The Haven showed some strong performances in numerous events.
The biggest noise was in the 100-yard backstroke where LHU finished 1-4.
Nicole Martellotti (Pittsburgh/Obama Academy) finished first with a PSAC mark of 1:02.09. Following closely behind her was
Kristin Allen (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) who just missed a PSAC time with a time of 1:04.48. In third was
Christina Williams (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) with a time of 1:07.10. Martellotti, Allen, and Williams all swam their season bests with the performance. Rounding out the sweep was
Jackie Bingham (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) who finished in 1:10.24 beating the fifth place swimmer by .46 seconds.
Rachael Pursell (Bath, Pa./Northhampton) also had a strong outing as she won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:08.08.
Coach
Joel Blesh was very pleased with the relay teams tonight. The 200-yard medley relay took second place out of eight teams. While the 200-yard freestyle team also took second place.
Allen, Pursell, and
Raechel Rodriguez (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) all swam tremendously in their individual events placing second in each of their events.
Up next:
Tomorrow October 15 as part of LHU's 2016 Homecoming Week, the Bald Eagles will host their annual Alumni Meet at 11 a.m.
