The Lock Haven University football team (4-6) will look to close the 2016 season on a winning note when the Bald Eagles head to Mercyhurst University (2-8) on Saturday, November 12. The Week 11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Divisional Crossover is set for a 12 p.m. kick at Tullio Field.
Setting the stage:
A win on Saturday at Mercyhurst could be monumental for the LHU football program. Lock Haven enters the Week 11 clash on a two-game win streak – LHU's second two-game win streak of the season – and the Bald Eagles have won four of their last five games.
LHU hasn't won five games in a single-season since the Bald Eagles finished the 1982 season at 5-5.
Lock Haven's offense is on pace to break nearly every major single-season record.
Mercyhurst enters the weekend at 8-2 overall. The Lakers beat East Stroudsburg in Week 2 and Gannon in Week 5.

Coach Taynor's Week 10 takeaways:
After the huge win in Week 10 over East Stroudsburg, second-year head coach
Dave Taynor had plenty to be excited about. Below are his biggest takeaways after Week 10.
- RUN THAT ROCK – Coach Taynor stresses the ability to run the ball and that was no different last week as the Bald Eagles rushed for 424 yards, which included three different individual 100-yard-plus rushers (1
st time in school history). That also included
John Ford, who had another huge game. According to Taynor, the offensive line was outstanding.
- SHAWN SEIF – The dynamic and speedy wide receiver can do it all. According to Taynor this was his All-American breakout-performance and he made a major statement with a huge game.
- INTs – Taynor stressed that LHU got another strong defensive effort. The Bald Eagles had two interceptions and five in the last two weeks, which is largely important and a reason behind the team's success.
-
EXPLOSIVE – The offense was explosive, racking up a school-record 66 points and 724 total yards of offense in the win at ESU. The guys prepared for that outing, says Taynor.
Coach Dave Taynor is in his second season as the head coach at Lock Haven (6-15 at LHU, 43-55 career; updated Wednesday, November 9 after win over East Stroudsburg in Week 10).
Walton, PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week:
On Monday (Nov. 7; Week 10), redshirt-senior quarterback
Caleb Walton was named this week's PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Bald Eagles to a record-breaking win last Saturday (Nov. 5) at East Stroudsburg.
Walton threw for 300 yards and a career-high five TDs as LHU racked up a school-record 66 points in a rout of perennial PSAC East contender ESU. He was 17 of 24 passing and also rushed for 101 yards.
Walton's strong play helped LHU beat ESU for the first time since 1989.
Walton now has 2,892 passing yards this season, the third-most ever recorded by a Lock Haven QB in a single season. He's just 81 passing yards away from the all-time mark and just 108 away from becoming the first LHU player to pass for over 3,000 yards in a single-season.
Walton's weekly honor marks the second straight week where a LHU player has been named the PSAC East's Offensive Player of the Week. Running back
John Ford won the award last week (Week 9).
Back to winnings ways:
The Bald Eagles have won two straight and the two wins in the last two weeks were "statement-wins" for the program as LHU defeated perennial PSAC East powers and contenders Bloomsburg and East Stroudsburg in back-to-back weeks.
After starting the season at 0-5, LHU is now 4-6 overall and has won four of its last five games.
The four wins are the most since 2002, when LHU finished 4-7. The Bald Eagles haven't won five games in a season since 1982 when the team finished 5-5 overall.
Lock Haven's four PSAC Divisional wins are the most since head coach Jack Fisher's squad ran the table in PSAC Western Division play and finished 6-0 (9-2 overall). LHU moved to the PSAC East at the start of the 2013 season.
Another statement made:
The Week 10 (Nov. 5) win at East Stroudsburg made another statement for the Bald Eagles. Not only did the Bald Eagles rack up a school-record 66 points in a dominating offensive surge, highlighted by numerous other school records and individual milestones, but LHU also recorded its first win over ESU since 1989 and snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Warriors.
Ford once again sparks powerful run-game:
In last week's win over ESU, the Bald Eagles racked up 424 team rushing yards, which was sparked by a historic outing. It marked the first time in school history that LHU had three individual players run for 100+ yards.
Leading the way was once again
John Ford, who had another career-day. He rushed for a career-high 206 yards and two TDs. He also caught one touchdown pass. His 206 rushing yards are the ninth-most in school history for a single-game.
Corey Blakey added 111 yards on the ground and scored one TD in his breakout-outing and
Caleb Walton added 101 yards on the ground.
Ford, a sophomore-transfer running back assumed the role of top running back in Week 8 at Kutztown and has quickly established himself as one of the toughest backs in the PSAC East. At Kutztown he rushed for 121 yards and two TDs and he followed it up with 144 yards in the win over Bloomsburg. Ford's hard-nosed downhill running ability carried Lock Haven to The Haven's most recent two wins.
Ford has at least one touchdown in the last four games and has averaged 157 yards (121, 144, & 206) over the last three games since earning the majority of snaps.
Seif a playmaker:
Wide receiver
Shawn Seif's special 2016 season continued in a huge way last week in the win over East Stroudsburg. Seif finished with 210 yards receiving and four touchdowns. The 210 yards receiving are the sixth-most for a single-game and moved him into first-place all-time for a single-season with a school-record 1,227 yards. Seif's four-TD catches last week also broke the single-game school record.
Seif's four-TD catches at ESU gave him 11 on the season, which is also a school record for single-season receiving touchdowns. Seif is the just the second LHU player in school history to go over 1,000-yards receiving in a season.
- Seif's 2016 stats (9GP/9GS; missed 1 game because of injury)
- 1,227 yards (single-season school record) 1st in PSAC | 5th in NCAA DII
- 136.3 yards/game – 1st in PSAC | 2nd in NCAA DII
- 11 TDs (single-season school record) 3rd in PSAC | 20th in NCAA DII
Chapple leads the "D":
After three years at Urbana, R-Sr. LB
Kevin Chapple has made himself feel at home this season at Lock Haven. He opened his Bald Eagle career with a monster outing at Clarion in Week 1, finishing with 14 tackles. Chapple hasn't looked back.
- Chapple's stat breakdown (10GP/9GS)
- 91 tackles (5th in PSAC)
- 60 solo tackles (1st in PSAC | 15th in NCAA DII)
- 9.1 tackles/game (6th in PSAC)
- 15.5 TFLs (4th in PSAC)
- 1.55 TFLs/game (4th in PSAC)
- Chapple among active NCAA leaders

Walton does it all, breaks records:
Redshirt-senior QB
Caleb Walton continues to rewrite the LHU record books. He had another career-day last week in the win over ESU, throwing for 300 yards and a career-high five TDs.
Walton now has 2,892 passing yards this season, the third-most ever recorded by a Lock Haven QB in a single season. He's just 81 passing yards away from the all-time mark and just 108 away from becoming the first LHU player to pass for over 3,000 yards in a single-season.
