Football Game Notes (Week 4): vs. West Chester

The LHU football team opens PSAC East action on Saturday (September 24) at West Chester (6 p.m.).

The Lock Haven University football team (0-3, 0-0 PSAC East) is headed to West Chester University for Saturday (September 24) night action to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play.
 
The Bald Eagles are 0-3 and in search of their first win of the season. Last week, LHU lost to nationally-ranked Slippery Rock, 59-23.
 
West Chester, the PSAC East preseason favorite, is 1-2 and coming off a 54-51 double-OT loss at Edinboro in Week 3.

LHU Week 4 storylines:
  • After Week 3 action, LHU is ranked third in the PSAC in passing offense. LHU's passing offense ranks fifth among all NCAA Division II teams (3 PSAC schools are in the nation's top-5).
  • LHU ranks seventh in the PSAC, 39th in DII in total offense.
  • LB Kevin Chapple ranks No. 1 in the PSAC in solo tackles (23).
  • WR Shawn Seif is the top receiver in the nation (DII) with 550 yards. He ranks No. 2 in DII with 183.3 yards/game.
  • Last week, R-Sr. QB Caleb Walton registered his 18th career 200-yard plus passing game (268).
  • Walton's 361 yards/game ranks third in the PSAC, sixth in the NCAA. His 1,083 yards rank third in the PSAC, sixth in the NCAA.

Lock Haven vs. West Chester:
Saturday's game will mark the 29th all-time meeting with West Chester. The Golden Rams won last year's meeting, 33-9 and have won five straight over Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles last win came in 1991, 13-7. WCU leads the series at 21-6-1.

Coach Taynor's Week 3 takeaways:
 
- IMPRESSED WITH O-LINE - The offensive line gave up just one sack in 50 attempts vs. the top pass rush in PSAC - rebounded nicely from Edinboro.
 
- SHAWN SEIF - Seif continues to improve with and without the ball in his hands. He has developed into a highly versatile and dangerous wide receiver.
 
- D-FENCE - Defensively we continued to defend the run well and held Shamar Greene to 3.1 yards per carry (career average of over 5.5) and 53 yards rushing.
 
Coach Dave Taynor is in his second season as the head coach at Lock Haven (2-12 at LHU, 39-52 career; updated Monday, September 19, 2016).

Chapple leads the defense:
After three years at Urbana, R-Sr. LB Kevin Chapple has made himself feel at home at Lock Haven. He leads all PSAC players with 23 solo tackles (T-3rd NCAA) and his 10.7 tackles/game are third-best in the PSAC (32nd NCAA). He ranks third in the PSAC with 2.33 TFLs/game. Chapple ranks third among all active DII players with 45 solo TFLs and his 1.53 career TFLs/game are fifth among all active DII players.
 
Seif a big-time playmaker:
R-Sr. WR Shawn Seif has established himself as one of the premier players in the nation and leads all Division II players with 550 receiving yards. His 183.3 receiving yards per game rank No. 1 in the PSAC and are No. 2 in the NCAA. His four touchdown receptions are the most in the PSAC. This season, he has three straight games of 100 or more yards.
