Field Hockey drops road game at St. Francis

The LHU field hockey team rallied late, but couldn’t quite complete the rally as they fall to St. Francis 2-1, finish season 10-8.

LORETTO, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-8, 3-5 A-10) rallied late, but couldn't quite complete the comeback as they dropped a tight game to St. Francis (8-9, 4-4 A-10) 2-1.

The Bald Eagles and The Red Flash battled it out on a frigid and rainy Sunday in Loretto, Pennsylvania.  St. Francis was able to strike first in the first half with a goal in the 21st minute.

The Red Flash held a 1-0 lead at halftime and a 7-1 shot advantage.

The second half was a different story.

The Bald Eagles came out firing in the second half, putting four shots on goal and six shots overall while keeping The Red Flash defense on their heels.

After St. Francis was able to add a second goal in the 53rd minute, Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) was able to take a pass from Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maravel, Trinadad and Tobago/Maravel) and find the back of the net to make the game 2-1 with three minutes left to play.

However, Lock Haven couldn't quite get that equalizing goal as SFU was able to hold on and get the win.

Smith and Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) led The Haven offense with three shots apiece.

The Bald Eagles end the season at 10-8.

Today's match wrapped up the 2017 season for the LHU field hockey team and Hall of Fame head coach Pat Rudy. In September, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2017 Hall of Fame Class and LHU head coach Pat Rudy was part of the class. Former Bryn Mawr head coach Jenepher Shillingford and former Walpole (Mass.) head coach Penny Calf join Rudy as 2017 honorees. Rudy entered the 2017 season with 583 career wins.

Friday's (Oct. 27) win at Rider secured the Bald Eagles sixth straight winning season and LHU has now recorded 10 or more wins for 29 straight seasons.
