Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball drops season-opener

The LHU women’s basketball team was downed 76-62 by host Fairmont State in the Bald Eagles 2017-18 season-opener.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Jordyn Kloster (Manchester, Pa./Millersville Univ.) paced the Bald Eagles will 11 points in her Haven debut, but it wasn't enough as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (0-1) fell to host Fairmont State (1-0) 76-62.

Today was the first of two games for Lock Haven at the 2017 Mountain East Conference (MEC)/Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Challenge, hosted by Fairmont State. The Bald Eagles will meet the MEC's Concord tomorrow.

Fairmont State played in the MEC title game last season, but the new-look Bald Eagles went toe-to-toe with the talented hosts.

Kloster, a transfer who added six rebounds, was one of two LHU players in double-figure scoring.

Freshman Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) netted 10 in her official collegiate debut. Kloster and Parker are key components on what looks to be a deep bench for the Bald Eagles in 2017-18. In all, Lock Haven got 29 points from the bench today.

LHU's also saw a balanced scoring attack in the opening game today as Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) added nine points. Both Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) and Maimuna Kenneh (Coatesville, Pa./Collegium Charter) finished with eight points apiece.

Kenneh's eight points highlighted an all-around strong outing as she added eight rebounds and two blocks.

Henderson had eight rebounds and Burleigh added six.

Fairmont State was led by Brooke Kurucz who knocked down seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 35 points.

Up next:
Tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 11), Lock Haven will take on Concord in Fairmont, West Virginia in the Bald Eagles second of two games at the 2017 MEC/PSAC Challenge.
