LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) scored twice which sparked the Lock Haven University field hockey team (3-0) past host Towson (0-3), 4-2
 
Tonight's non-conference matchup marked Lock Haven's first road test of the season, but the Bald Eagles looked comfortable away from home, and improved to 3-0 with the win over the Tigers.
 
Smith, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) Player of the Week and LHU's leading scorer, scored once in each half to pace the Bald Eagles attack. She also added one assist.
 
Through three games, Smith leads Lock Haven with 11 points (4G, 3A).
 
Lock Haven opened the scoring early thanks to MacKenzie Farley (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who scored just 4:40 into the contest.
 
With LHU leading 1-0, Towson tied the game at 1-1 in the 19^th minute off a goal from Valerie Hajek.
 
In the 25^th minute, Lock Haven took the lead again and made it 2-1 thanks to Smith's first goal of the game.
 
The Bald Eagles took that 2-1 lead into halftime. LHU outshot Towson 7-3 in the first half.
 
Early in the second half, Lock Haven stretched the lead to 3-1 after Anna King (Edinburgh, Scotland/American International) deflected home a Smith shot. King's goal came in the 38^th minute.
 
Towson got one back and cut into LHU's lead in the 54^th minute. The goal made it 3-2 in favor of the Bald Eagles.
 
Smith's second goal of the game came with just 12 seconds left and sealed the deal for Lock Haven.
 
Goalkeeper Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) led the defensive charge and she finished with three saves.
 
The Bald Eagles defensive unit was tough and allowed just five shots.
 
For the game, LHU outshot Townson 15-5 and Lock Haven held a 7-3 advantage in corners.
 
On Sunday, Sept. 3, LHU will play at Georgetown (1 p.m.).
