MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Lock Haven University baseball team (1-0) hit the diamond for the first time in 2018 and opened a new era with a 5-4 win thanks to a pair of home runs in the opener vs. Chowan (1-2).
 
The game 1 win marked the first for new head coach Heath Stover. Game 2 was stopped because of darkness and will resume tomorrow at noon. The Bald Eagles are still scheduled to play Chowan in a second straight doubleheader tomorrow after finishing today's Game 2.
 
Game 1 ended with a 5-4 Bald Eagle victory in dramatic fashion. Trailing 4-2 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Keyshawn D'Orso (Pittsburgh Mercyhurst North East Community College) launched a 3-run bomb to put Lock Haven in front 5-4.
 
Breton LaRose (Ogdensburg, N.Y. Sacred Heart) then came in to close the game on the mound and shut the door on the Hawks and seal the win.
 
Nick Stotler (Plum, Pa./Coker College) got LHU off to a hot start, sending his first of two homers on the day over the left field wall in the top of the first to put Lock Haven up 1-0.
 
Kolby Dehaas (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho/ Wentatchee Valley Community College) and Brady Chappell (Milton, Pa./Milton) led the LHU offense. Dehaas went 2-4 with an RBI while Chappell went 2-3.
 
Jesse Slinger (Pittsburgh/Youngstown State) made his Haven debut on the mound, allowing five hits over five innings while giving up one earned run and striking out six.
 
Lock Haven's game one win marked the first win under new interim head coach Heath Stover.
 
Game 2 was postponed in the bottom of the seventh until tomorrow due to darkness. The game will resume at noon and be followed by the original double header scheduled for tomorrow between the teams.
 
In the contest, LHU jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Chowan battled back to bring the game to 8-6 before it was halted. A full recap of game two will be included in tomorrow's recap.
