The Lock Haven University football team is set to host No. 3 Indiana (Pa.) University on Saturday, September 15 at 12 p.m.

Setting the stage:
Saturday marks LHU's second straight home game as the Bald Eagles play host to third-ranked IUP. Kickoff on Saturday at 'new-look' Hubert Jack Stadium is 12 p.m.

Lock Haven is 0-2 overall and 0-1 at home, while No. 3 IUP is 2-0 overall and 1-0 on the road. IUP is coming off a 41-7 win over Millersville last Thursday.

The series with IUP:
Saturday will mark the 79th all-time meeting between LHU and IUP. IUP leads the all-time series 58-17-3. The Bald Eagles will be looking to snap a 33-game losing streak and hope to beat IUP for the first time since a 41-14 win back in 1981. The two teams last met in 2015, a 38-13 IUP win.

A look back at Week 2:
Last week, Lock Haven and Clarion battled steady rain and wet field conditions throughout, and in the end Clarion escaped a rain-soaked Hubert Jack Stadium with an exciting 30-21 victory. The two teams combined for 13 turnovers and were deadlocked at 14-14 at halftime.

Trailing 14-0 midway through the second quarter, Chantz Swartz darted into the end zone for the Bald Eagles' first touchdown of the 2018 season. With 5:51 left in the first half, Nysir Minney-Gratz hauled in a long pass for a 34-yard TD-catch. The late first-half TD helped the Bald Eagles tie the game at 14-14.

The TD-pass was the first of quarterback Ethan Persa's career, as he came off the bench early in the game to make his Bald Eagle debut. Persa threw for 213 yards and two TDs (7-for-19, 4 INTs). Swartz rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown, and he also hauled in the one TD-pass. Swartz finished with 86 receiving yards, while Minney-Gratz made three catches for 71 yards.

The Bald Eagles defensive unit kept Lock Haven in the game. They finished with four interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, seven tackles for loss and one sack.

Asare leading the way for Lock Haven:
Last week vs. Clarion sophomore-linebacker Obadiah Asare made a game-high 12 tackles. He had eight solo stops and 2.5 tackles for loss. In Week 1 at FCS Duquesne, Asare made a game-high 11 tackles. So far through two games, he is averaging 11.5 tackles per game, which ranks second in the PSAC (No. 28th, D2). His 23 total tackles are also second in the PSAC. Asare's 15 solo tackles lead the PSAC.

Mason makes history:
Last week, redshirt-sophomore defensive back Dontae Mason made history with three interceptions, which tied the single-game LHU record. His three interceptions on the season – all in one game – are tied for the most in the PSAC.

The 'grand re-opening' of Hubert Jack Stadium surface:
With last week marking the Bald Eagles' 2018 home-opener, LHU took time to celebrate the 'grand re-opening' of the Hubert Jack Stadium surface. Prior to the coin toss, there was a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Following the ribbon cutting and as part of the grand re-opening, the LHU offense ran a ceremonial first play and it was only fitting that new LHU President Robert Pignatello scored the first touchdown on the new turf. Last spring, LHU replaced its former surface with Astroturf's Trionic fiber, one of the most technologically advanced surfaces in the world.

2018 Gridiron Greats:
Last Saturday, the LHU football team honored its 2018 Gridiron Greats Class at halftime: Jim Doran, Brian Sekerak, John Spinosa, Maurice Walker and Chris Kustanbauter.

Staton holds down the O-line:
Redshirt-junior David Staton (LT) leads the way on the offensive line. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound left tackle has played in all 24 games of his career for the Bald Eagles and is without question one of the premier lineman in the entire PSAC.

Starting vs. FCS opponents:
For the second straight season, the Bald Eagles opened a new season with an NCAA Division I FCS opponent. On Saturday (Sept. 1), LHU fell to host Duquesne, 45-0. It marked the first meeting between the two Pennsylvania schools. Last year, Lock Haven dropped its 2017 opener at Saint Francis, 69-3. Last season's opener marked LHU's first game vs. an FCS team since the 2012 season-opener at Fordham. In all, Saturday's game at Duquesne marked LHU's 13th game vs. an NCAA DI FCS opponent since 2000. Nine of those games served as season-openers. LHU hasn't beaten an FCS opponent since 1971 when the Bald Eagles opened the season with a 14-7 victory over Delaware State.

Taynor in fourth season:
- Dave Taynor (Urbana, '99), fourth season at LHU (8-27, 8-13 PSAC East)
- Career Record, 11th season (45-67 overall)
For LHU head football coach Dave Taynor, the 2018 season will mark his fourth at The Haven.  On April 12, 2015 he was named the school's 24th head coach.

2018 LHU Coaching Staff The 2018 schedule:
A second straight season-opener at a Division I opponent, five home games and a trip to Texas to take on the defending NCAA Division II national champions highlight the 2018 schedule. During the 2018 season, the Bald Eagles will host Clarion, IUP, Millersville, Bloomsburg and Shippensburg. LHU's home-opener is set for Saturday, September 8 at 12 p.m. All five of Lock Haven's home games will start at 12 p.m. including the Homecoming game on October 20. LHU will also make a trip to The Lone Star State on Saturday, September 29 to take on Texas A&M Commerce, the defending NCAA DII champions.

Up next:
Next week (Week 4 // Saturday, September 22), the Bald Eagles will open PSAC East play at East Stroudsburg University. It will mark the first of two straight on the road for LHU as the Lock Haven will head to defending NCAA Division II national champion Texas A&M Commerce on Saturday, September 29.
