The Lock Haven University field hockey team is set for another busy weekend of action.
On Friday, September 7, Lock Haven will make a short trip southeast to take on local-rival Bucknell at 4 p.m. LHU will return home to host Colgate on Sunday, September 9 at 1 p.m.
Setting the stage:
Lock Haven is 3-1 overall. The Bald Eagles are 2-0 at home and 1-0 in true-road contests after a season-opening 1-0 win at Lehigh.
Bucknell is 2-2 overall, but beat Lock Haven 2-1 last season. LHU is 36-9-3 all-time vs. Bucknell in a series that dates back to 1954.
Colgate is 2-2 on the season and LHU downed the Raiders 1-0 in double-OT on the road last season. All-time, LHU is 14-2 vs. Colgate.
Perfect 2-0 at home:
Last weekend, the Bald Eagles played at home on Charlotte Smith Field for the first time in 2018 and they certainly enjoyed the friendly confines of their home turf. LHU opened the weekend (Fri, Aug. 31) with a dominating 6-0 win over Towson, before capping the weekend with a solid 3-1 win over Cornell on Sunday (Sept. 2). Lock Haven racked up nine total goals in the two games at home and only allowed nine shots in 280 minutes of play.
Roach, A-10 Player of the Week:
On Tuesday (Sept. 4), senior-midfielder
Tamia Roach was named the Co-Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) Player of the Week. She shared this week's A-10 Player of the Week honor with Anna Willocks of Saint Joseph's. Saint Louis freshman Emily Wastell was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. Over the span of two games, both wins for Lock Haven, Roach registered three goals and an assist for seven total points. In Friday's 6-0 win over Towson, she scored twice and in Sunday's 3-1 win over Cornell, she had a goal and an assist.
Defense pitches shutouts:
On the season, two of Lock Haven's three wins have come by way of shutout as the Bald Eagle defensive unit has been nothing short of sensational. Over four games – 280 total minutes – LHU has only allowed four goals. Goalkeeper
Brianna DeAngelis is 3-1 with a 1.26 goals-against-average and .733 save percentage.
Finding the back of the net:
On the season, LHU is outscoring opponents 12-4 through four games. Lock Haven's 12 goals have come from seven different players including
Tamia Roach who leads the way with four.
Smith lending helping hand:
Senior-midfielder
Alyscia Smith leads Lock Haven with four assists on the season.
Rudy's march to 600:
LHU's Hall of Fame head coach
Pat Rudy entered the season with 593 wins and thanks to three wins already this season, she sits ever closer to a historic win No. 600. With 596 wins to date, Rudy is just four wins away from hitting the 600-win mark, something only two coaches in history have done before her.
