Women’s Soccer dominates in road conference win

The LHU women’s soccer cruised to a 5-1 win over PSAC East member Mansfield.

MANSFIELD, Pa. –The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (2-5-2, 2-5-1 PSAC East) was in control from start to finish this afternoon as they handled Mansfield (1-10, 1-8 PSAC East) by a final of 5-1. It was an offensive showcase as the Bald Eagles finished with a season high in shots with 31 and a season high in goals with five goals coming from five different players.

From the very first whistle LHU was all over the Mansfield defense. It was a first half that saw 16 shots in total with 10 of them being on goal.

Getting the party started was Megan Ramaley (Aliquippapa, Pa./Hopewell High). The goal came via a corner kick that saw Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./ Soudertown High) play a ball into the box that Ramaley was able to control and finish for the 1-0 lead.

Taking place just minutes later LHU had their second of the day. Lauren Tubay (Lancaster, Pa./ Manheim Township) crossed a ball into the box that found Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./ Warrior Run) giving her her first goal of the year.

With minutes to go in the first half Lock Haven was awarded a free kick from about 25 yards out. Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Junita) stepped up to the ball and fired it past the Mountaineer keeper making the score 3-0 going into halftime.

The Bald Eagles would continue to press the Mansfield defense in the second half.

Marley Sprenkel (Selinsgrove, Pa./ Selinsgrove High) scored in the 65th minute of play when she dribbled into the 18-yard box and beat the keeper to make it 4-0. Haleigh Swam (West Minster, Md./ Winters Mill) was credited with the assist giving Sprenkel her third goal of the year.

For good measure, Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./ Hempfield High) made sure there would be no Mansfield comeback as she took things into her own hands finishing a breakaway putting the Bald Eagles up for good and earning them a big three points in conference play.
