Women’s Soccer battles to a 1-1 tie against Shepherd

The LHU women’s soccer team earns a hard fought tie against newly minted PSAC East member, Shepherd.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Playing through the elements, The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (2-3-1, 2-3 PSACE) battles to a 1-1 tie against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe, Shepherd (0-7-1, 0-7 PSACE).

For much of the first half and throughout the match the Bald Eagle attack made life rough for the Rams defense. LHU fired a season high eight first half shots giving Shepherd all they could handle.

Although Lock Haven led in first half shots, it was Shepherd who claimed the lead going into halftime. With just over 11 minutes to go in the half, Sara Hohn shot from 28 yards out to give them the halftime lead.

After an inspirational halftime speech form LHU head coach Maggie Kuhn, the Bald Eagles wasted no time in finding the equalizer.

The tying goal came from Marley Sprenkel (Selinsgrove, Pa./ Selinsgrove High) who made a back post run, rose up and finished the header. Setting the play up was Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Junita) playing a perfect ball, giving her her first assist of the year. For Sprenkel, it was the first goal of her Bald Eagle career.

After scoring early in the second half, LHU kept the pressure on. Lock Haven shot the ball 12 times opposed to Shepherd's two, but the game finished regulation in a 1-1 tie. LHU recorded a season high 25 shots with nine of them being on goal.

During the overtime periods, Shepherd and Lock Haven looked to find the game winner however it was not meant to be as each team earned a hard fought point in the standings.

Leading the way offensively was Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./ Hempfield) who recorded 12 shots with 4 of them being on frame.

Defensively, Chyanne Cook (Mountain Top, Pa./ Crestwood) was at the top of her game shutting down any threat the Rams were able to mount. Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./ Warrior Run) was strong in the midfield creating chances moving forward and shutting down chances defensively.
