LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team has just one game scheduled for the upcoming weekend, but it's an important one, as the Bald Eagles head to Saint Louis Sunday (October 27) for a crucial late-season Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) clash.
The Bald Eagles are 8-7 overall and 4-2 in A-10 action. That 4-2 league record has Lock Haven locked up in a three-way tie in the Atlantic 10 standings with Richmond and Massachusetts.
Lock Haven has won three straight vs. the Billikens. Saint Louis is winless on the season at 0-14 (0-6 A-10).
News, notes & storylines heading into the weekend:
- LHU is 8-7 overall.
- Lock Haven went 1-1 last week.
- LHU opened last week with a 4-0 league-loss to UMass, but bounced back in a big way Sunday, and defeated Wagner, 4-0 on Senior Day.
- Lock Haven is 4-2 in A-10 action.
- The Bald Eagles went 6-4 at home during the 2019 regular season.
- The win Sunday (Oct. 20) vs. Wagner helped LHU celebrate Senior Day 2019 in style. The 2019 LHU field hockey seniors include Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East), MacKenzie Farley (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), Anna King (Edinburgh, Scotland/Dollar Academy), Emily Robb (Millersville, Pa./ Penn Manor), Katie Supey (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman), Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Taylor Plouse (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), along with student assistant Jordan Crispeno.
- On Monday (Oct. 21), standout-freshman Jazmin Palma was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. It marks the third time this season she has taken home the honors. She had a goal and two assists in the win vs. Wagner.
- On the season, Lock Haven is 1-1 in the shootout and 2-2 overall when extra time is needed.
- Standout freshman Jazmin Palma leads LHU in nearly every offensive category. She is tied for the team lead in goals with four, leads the team in assists (ranked No. 4 in the A-10) with five and she leads Lock Haven with 13 points.
- Palma also has an A-10 leading 60 shots.
- Fellow-rookie Amy Stevens also has four goals on the season.
- The defensive effort can't be overlooked, as the Bald Eagles have been outstanding. On the season, LHU has five shutouts, which leads the A-10 and ranks 15th in NCAA Division I field hockey.
- Goalkeeper Joaquina Orlandini has been brilliant for the Bald Eagles. She is 7-7 (14 starts, 14 games played, sat out vs. Lehigh) and has played 894-plus minutes
- Orlandini has 46 saves, five shutouts, a 1.34 goals-against-average and a .697 save-percentage.
- Orlandini ranks No. 1 in the A-10 in shutouts and No. 2 in GAA. She ranks No. 7 in save-percentage and her 1.34 GAA ranks 18th in Division I.
- To date (8 wins this season), Hall of Fame head coach Pat Rudy now has 610 career coaching victories.

After the game at Saint Louis, just two games remain in the 2019 regular season for the Bald Eagles. LHU will head to Saint Francis for an A-10 match on November 1, before playing at Rider on November 3.
