LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In the midst of a rainy evening at Hubert Jack Stadium the action was intense on the field between two teams battling for playoff position. The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (7-7, 4-4 PSAC East) would reign victorious on Saturday evening over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Bloomsburg (7-8, 5-5 PSAC East) by a score of 3-0.
The first half could not have been closer as each side had five total shots, two on goal and each keeper making two saves a piece.
Lock Haven's best opportunity came in the first minute of the contest when Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) fired a shot just over the cross bar nearly putting the Bald Eagles up early.
Later in the half, Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./ Manheim Township) stepped up to take a free kick that deflected just wide of the cage going out for a Lock Haven corner.
Despite the back and forth action, there was no score going into halftime.
LHU wasted no time coming out of the second half creating two beautiful chances. The first coming from Colton Dellinger (Lebanon, Pa./ Cedar Crest) who blasted a shot from about 30 yards out that was turned away by the Bloomsburg keeper.
Sibiski had another chance on a free kick that rang off the post and ricocheted away from the box.
After persistent play from the LHU offense, they were able to crack the Bloomsburg defense.
Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./ Brockway Area) tallied the first goal on the night for the Bald Eagles on a gorgeous pass from Kemali Green (Philadelphia/ YSC Academy).
What is now becoming common place, DiSomma found the net two more times in today's match. The first was on a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box. The second came after a scramble in the box that found the right foot of DiSomma after Matthew McDermott (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) did well to set the play up. This marks his second two goal game of the season against Bloomsburg.
Tonight, DiSomma recorded his fourth multiple goal game of the year, and his 15th overall on the season. This mark is the most since Troy Amspacher scored 14 in 2016.
The defense stood tall all evening recording their second shutout of the season. Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) made three big saves to preserve the clean sheet.
With the win, it puts Lock Haven right back in the mix of the PSAC East playoff race.
