Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Haven posts comeback win, remains in playoff contention

The LHU men’s soccer team scored four unanswered goals in a comeback victory that kept the Bald Eagles in contention for a berth in the 2019 PSAC Tournament.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored two of the Bald Eagles four unanswered goals and the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (10-8, 7-5 PSAC) remained in contention for a postseason berth, thanks to a thrilling, 4-2, comeback win over visiting Shippensburg University (2-10-3, 2-9-1 PSAC) in front of another large Hubert Jack Stadium crowd.

The win extended LHU's win streak to four games and the Bald Eagles improved to 8-3 in their last 11 games. The regular season capping victory pushed Lock Haven to 10-8 overall.

The important PSAC East win moved Lock Haven to 7-5 in divisional action. At 21 points, the Bald Eagles are now in sole possession of third place in the PSAC East standings, just ahead of East Stroudsburg, who has 19 points. As important as the win was tonight for the Bald Eagles, it all comes down to tomorrow, as East Stroudsburg has one game yet to play. The Warriors will host Shepherd at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

West Chester and Millersville have already locked up PSAC Tournament berths from the Eastern Division.

Prior to tonight's game, the LHU men's soccer program honored its nine graduating seniors: Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point), Alec Mapoy (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), Kyle Hartman (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.), Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), Brand Brackbill (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata), Matt Botros (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East), Colton Dellinger (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), Ivo Klaric (Vienna, Austria/University of Vienna) and Andrew Moore (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley).

Along with DiSomma, LHU's rookie sensation, Lock Haven also got key goals from Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) and Klaric.

DiSomma scored twice and now has 17 goals on the season.

The 17 goals lead the PSAC and are tied for the second-most this season in all of NCAA Division II men's soccer.

The 17 goals also are the most scored in a single-season since Matthew Ford scored 17 in 1993. The school record in a single season is 25 and three different players have scored 18 goals in a single season. A 17-goal season has been accomplished on three occasions now that DiSomma has joined the elite list.

The Bald Eagles found themselves down early as Shippensburg led 2-0. The visitors went up 1-0 in the 36th minute after Colin Marks converted from the penalty spot. It was quickly 2-0 as Ship scored again less than a minute later.

Overall three goals came in a hurry and the two-goal lead was short lived, as Lock Haven got on the board behind a Sibiski goal (38').

DiSomma's first of two goals tied the match at 2-2 in the 57th. It came in dramatic fashion as he bent a 21-yard free kick over the wall and into the goal.

Klaric scored the game-winner in the 65th minute after running onto a beautiful through ball from Moore.

DiSomma gave Lock Haven an important insurance goal late as he scored again in the 88th minute of play, capping the Bald Eagle comeback win in style.
