Women’s Basketball tops Carlow for third straight win

Lonardi propels LHU past Carlow University with double-digit performance

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (5-3) dominated Carlow University (6-7) 77-31 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at Donahue Pavilion in Pittsburgh.

The Bald Eagles commanded the game right from the start, stifling the Celtics offense to hold a 22-5 lead after just the first quarter of play. While Carlow kept the second quarter tighter, scoring 11 points to LHU's 17, Lock Haven continued to hold a significant lead (39-16) heading in to the second half.

LHU added another 21 points in the third while allowing just seven points to push their already considerable lead to 37 points, taking a 60-23 advantage in to the final quarter of play. The Bald Eagles sustained the onslaught in the final frame, tallying 17 points to close out the wire-to-wire victory.

Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) powered the Lock Haven offense, notching 20 points to push her team-leading season total to 107. Lonardi now sits second among all Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) freshman in scoring. Both Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) and Bink Redman (York, Pa. / William Penn) recorded points in the double-digits as well, tallying 13 and 11 points respectively. Redman added 10 rebounds to mark her second double-double of the season.

Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport (Monroe CC)), who leads the PSAC in rebounds, tacked on nine points and nine rebounds, increasing her season rebound total to 86.

As a team, Lock Haven held the Celtics to a 17.68 field goal percentage and did not allow Carlow to score a single three as the Celtics went 0-19 on three-point attempts. LHU recorded a season high eight blocks against the Celtics, as Robinson recorded four, a season high for the junior guard.
