COLUMBIA, Md. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (1-3) wrapped up the weekend with a doubleheader this afternoon against Clarion University (3-4) at Blandair Regional Park in Columbia, Md. The Golden Eagles were able to take game one, 2-0 before outlasting LHU, 8-7 in game two.
Game 1: L, 2-0
Clarion was able to get on the board early in the game with a 2-run double in the top of the first to jump ahead 2-0, but Lock Haven starter
Avery Eddy (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) really settled in after the inning and completely shut down the Golden Eagles' offense.
Eddy pitched a gem for LHU, throwing a complete-game three-hitter while allowing only two earned runs. He finished with 10 strikeouts on the day with only two walks in a solid effort on the hill.
Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) had a great game at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-3.
Isaac Porter (Beech Creek, Pa./St. Bonaventure) added a double in the game while
Demetrius Haskins (Pittsburgh/Taylor Allderdice) also added a hit for the Bald Eagles.
Game 2: L, 8-7
Clarion once again was able to get off to a fast start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. LHU was able to respond and score three runs in the top of the second inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. Lock Haven was able to score runs in the third (1), fourth (1) and fifth (2) innings to take a 7-6 lead into the sixth inning.
The Golden Eagles were able to add two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead and were able to hold on and outlast LHU, 8-7.
McArthur, Haskins and
Reagan Lawlor (McMurray, Pa./Peters) led the way for the Lock Haven offense as they each tallied two hits. McArthur and Haskins each finished the game 2-4 with an RBI and a run while Lawlor finished the game 2-4 with two runs scored.
Porter and
Jimmy Webb (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) each added a double and an RBI in the contest while
John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland CC) added an RBI and
Colby Hiddemen (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley) added a double.
LHU will travel to Glenville, West Virginia next weekend for games against West Liberty, Fairmont State and Glenville State. The first game of the weekend is scheduled for Friday, March 1 against West Liberty with the first pitch set for 12:45 PM.
