WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (12-15, 9-13 PSACE) dropped their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) first round playoff game to West Chester University (20-9, 13-9 PSACE), 83-73, on Monday night in Hollinger Fieldhouse.
Both teams got off to a flying start and the Bald Eagles lit up the scoreboard early going 4-4 from the field in the opening minutes. The hot shooting continued and the Haven led 25-19 at the under 12 media timeout, while shooting a blistering 64 percent from the field.
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) sparked the Haven run with 14 first half points. West Chester, however, reeled the Bald Eagles in late in the half and went on an extended 21-4 run to take 40-34 lead into halftime.
West Chester pressed their advantage early in the second half and stretched out a 55-40 lead in the opening four minutes. The Golden Rams went a perfect 4-4 from downtown to open the half and led by as many as 18 points in the second. Lock Haven clawed their way back into the game in the final ten minutes and cut the West Chester lead to 66-60 with seven minutes to play. Strong late shooting from West Chester, including Robbie Heath who finished the game with 33 points, fended off the late Bald Eagle push and propelled the Golden Rams to the 83-73 win.
Kelly paced the Bald Eagle attack and capped his strong season with a 23 point performance. The senior added nine rebounds and two steals and two three-pointers to his effort.
A trio of Bald Eagles finished the game in double figures as
Nasir Campbell (Philadelphia/ Simon Gratz) poured in 17 points and
Trevor Lecuona (Baltimore, Md./ Oakdale) added 16 points. Campbell hauled in a game high 10 rebounds and went 3-4 from beyond the arc. Lecuona also added 4-7 from the three point line and a team high four assists.
