ETTRICK, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (5-7) took down Virginia State University (9-10) in a pitcher's duel, 2-1, on Monday afternoon as the Bald Eagles capped off their spring break road trip.
After a scoreless first four innings in which both sides totaled just three hits, the Bald Eagles broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth inning when Gavin Troutman (Oley Valley, Pa./Catholic Oley Valley) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to center field. The very next batter Reagan Lawlor (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) knocked an RBI double down the right field line to score the final Bald Eagle run of the day.
Virginia State tallied a run in the ninth inning as they attempted to tie the game, but David Keller (Oreland, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennon) earned the save and stymied the comeback attempt.
Tristin Lockett (Mifflin County, Pa./Mifflin County) got the win for the Haven and turned in a gem going six innings without allowing a run. The freshman scattered just five hits over that span and struck out two batters as he shut down the Trojan bats.
Lawlor and Cameron Kutchey (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) tallied the lone Bald Eagle hits on the day as Trojan pitcher Bryce Haynes went all nine innings allowing just two hits.
