LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (4-1-2, 2-0-1 PSAC East) and visiting East Stroudsburg (3-4-1, 1-1-1 PSAC East) battled to a hard-fought and thrilling, 3-3, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) double-overtime draw tonight at Hubert Jack Stadium.
From the opening whistle, the two teams went right at it and in the end, they combined for six goals and some spectacular all-around play that delighted the loud and boisterous home crowd.
East Stroudsburg struck first and the Warriors led 2-0 just 17 minutes into the game. The Bald Eagles responded quickly and resoundingly, as
Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) got on the end of a
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) shot which rebounded off the crossbar and directly into his path.
Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) leveled the game at 2-2 just before halftime on a Sibiski corner kick.
The Bald Eagles struck early and scored just two minutes into the second half when
Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) broke free off a flicked header from
Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and finished calmly past the keeper.
ESU found the game-tying goal in the 79
th minute to send the game to its deserving overtime.
In overtime, the game continued at a feverish pace with chances on both sides, but neither team was able to breakthrough.
Late in the second overtime, Hershey got on the end of a free-kick, but sent his half-volley shot just wide.
Haven goalkeeper
Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) made eight saves, including a crucial save late in the second overtime period.
