LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bald Eagles earned a walk-off win in the day's opener and used a solid all-around effort in game two as the Lock Haven University softball team (6-12, 6-12 PSAC East) swept visiting Mansfield University (2-12, 2-12 PSAC East) this afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
Lock Haven won game one, 2-1, thanks to a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh, and the Bald Eagles completed the sweep with a 7-2 game-two victory.
The sweep pushes Lock Haven to a three-game win streak and the Bald Eagles are now 6-12 overall (6-12 PSAC East).
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh in game one,
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) delivered the game-winning hit, as her single found shallow left center. The clutch hit was all Lock Haven needed as
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) scored from second to push the game-winning run across the plate.
Down 1-0 in the third,
Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) drove in a run to tie the game at 1-1. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Bald Eagles in game one.
Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) had a pair of game-one hits (2-for-3).
Pitcher
Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) turned in another strong outing in the circle. She struck out eight while scattering just four hits over seven innings on the way to victory. Waltman helped her own cause with a 3-for-3 plate appearance.
Lock Haven completed the sweep after scoring seven runs on 10 hits in the 7-2 game-two victory.
Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Morgan Karasek (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
LHU broke open the game with a three-run sixth inning.
Kierston Long (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) sparked the sixth-inning surge with a pinch-hit double that drove in a pair of runs
Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) recorded the win for Lock Haven in the circle after seven solid innings of work.
Lock Haven and Mansfield were originally scheduled to play tomorrow (Fri, April 9), but the two teams moved the doubleheader up to today because of rain in tomorrow's forecast. LHU will head to Mansfield on Saturday (April 10). Game 1 Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
