FH: Behind big offensive output, Haven rolls to another victory

The LHU field hockey team used another six-goal effort to roll by Bellarmine, 6-2, in non-conference action.

ST. LOUIS – For the second consecutive day, the Lock Haven University field hockey team (3-4) tallied six goals and the Bald Eagles rolled to their second win in St. Louis in as many days. Today (Saturday, Sept. 25), Lock Haven downed Bellarmine University (1-7), 6-2, at Saint Louis University in non-conference action.

Yesterday, LHU scored six goals in a 6-2 conference win over host-Saint Louis.

In today's win over Bellarmine, Lock Haven also benefitted from another big game from goalkeeper Joaquina Orlandini (Concordia, Argentina/San Antonio School) who made seven saves.

Leading the way today on the scoresheet was Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Piaget) who netted the hat trick. She also had one assist.

For the second straight game Constanza Lopez Zabala (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Martin y Omar) scored twice and Jasmine Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) also made it two straight games with a goal as she found the back of the cage today in the win.

Today vs. Bellarmine, Lock Haven scored early and often. It was 1-0 LHU just 1:08 into the match and the Bald Eagles led 4-0 in the 41st minute of play before adding two more goals in the second half on the way to the dominating 6-2 neutral-site victory.

LHU's weekend opener:
Last night (Friday, Sept. 24), Lock Haven opened the weekend with a dominating 6-2 win over host-Saint Louis, thanks in large part to a 12-save effort from Orlandini. The win marked LHU's first road win of the season and served as Lock Haven's first Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) win of the 2021 campaign. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and the six-goal effort helped the Bald Eagles get the offense rolling in their favor again. The six-goal contest marked LHU's most goals scored in a single game since the Bald Eagles tallied six vs. Colgate back on September 9, 2018. The 12 saves by Orlandini Friday night marked the most saves in a single game for a Lock Haven goalkeeper since Paige Stuppy was credited with 12 saves back on October 23, 2016 vs. Bucknell.

Up next for LHU:
LHU will host Cornell in non-conference action on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. on Charlotte Smith Field.
