LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Today (Sunday, Oct. 1), the Lock Haven tennis team (4-0) hosted Penn State Altoona (5-4) and the Bald Eagles came away with another decisive victory. This afternoon, The Haven topped the visitors, 7-2, and moved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
The Bald Eagles swept doubles play (3 points) and won four of six singles' matches.
Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) led the way in singles play as she downed Caitlin Blessel 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.
Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe),
Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and
Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) added victories for Lock Haven in singles action.
At No. 1 doubles, Anastos and
Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) cruised to an 8-3 win over Penn State Altoona's Mikhaela Merca and Caitlin Blessel.
At No. 2 doubles, Brown and
Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) took a decisive 8-1 victory over Rachel Stricek and Isabella Rhoades.
Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Emma Harry (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) took the final doubles' point in the sweep with win by forfeit.
Following doubles play, Lock Haven's dominance continued as the team took four of the six singles matches.
Anastos led the charge in the No. 2 match, cruising to the big win.
At No. 4, McLean earned her first singles' victory as she defeated Rhoades 6-0, 6-4.
To close out the contested single-matches, Long remained undefeated in singles action as she took down Lauren Stich 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
Brown (No. 6) was credited with a win in singles play by forfeit, adding another important team point for Lock Haven.
