CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's swimming team traveled to California (Pa.) to open its 2023-24 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule and fell in a hard-fought meet, 154-133, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4).
The Bald Eagles improved their team score by 44 points against the Vulcans from the PSAC match up last season (2022-23).
The Haven had an outstanding afternoon overall, finishing with victories in nine of the 17 events.
Holly Cleworth (Cape Town, Western Cape; South Africa/Springfield Convent of the Holy Rosary) swam PSAC qualifying marks in three of her four individual events after winning the 100- (1:01.71 PSAC) and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.13) and 200- (2:01.54 PSAC) and 500-yard freestyle (5:28.02).
Cleworth teamed up with
Sydney Houck (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon),
Emma Pequignot (Dover, Pa./Dover),
Alaina Cane (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) to win the 300-yard medley relay (100-50-50-100) with a time of 3:05.09.
Houck had another excellent afternoon as she won the 50- (33.11), 200- (2:38.89) and 100-yard breaststoke (1:12.14).
Pequignot added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.45 and a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.20).
Pequignot and Houck finished second and third in the 100-IM, respectively.
