Men’s Basketball dominates second half to down Griffins on the road

The Bald Eagles dominated the second half of action to secure a come-from-behind victory on the road at Seton Hill University on Monday night.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Trailing at the half, the Lock Haven men's basketball team came out of the break on fire to secure an 83-73 come-from-behind victory at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Seton Hill on Monday (Dec. 18).
 
With the victory, the Bald Eagles even up at 4-4 overall, while improving to 2-1 in the PSAC. The Griffins fall to 6-3 overall, with a 1-2 mark in the PSAC.
 
Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) led five Bald Eagles in double figures with 17 points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds.
 
Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Isaiah Stewart (Madison, WI./Madison La Follette) had his best game of the season as he finished with 16 points, five assists and three rebounds.
 
Harward, Stewert and Shoats all went 2-for-2 from behind the arch.
 
Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) continues to be a spark plug off the bench, leading that unit with 14 points, three rebounds and a pair of helpers. Bryson Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) followed suit, also poured in double-figures off the bench, adding 11 points on a team-high 4-of-6 free throws.
 
Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School) added six points, six rebounds and three steals.
 
Trailing 35-33 to open the second half, the Bald Eagles took their first lead closing in on the 16-minute mark, 42-40, following consecutive layups from Shoats and Graham. However, Seton Hill drilled a trifecta on the next possession to regain a one-point advantage.
 
The ensuing six minutes featured three ties and eight lead changes, before consecutive 3-pointers from Scott and Shoats gave the Bald Eagles a 58-53 lead with just over 10 minutes to go.
 
The Griffins remained within striking distance, keeping within two scores all the way until the three-minute mark, when a Harward jumper and a pair of Scott free throws put The Haven up 75-68.
 
The Griffins drilled another triple on their next possession to cut within four, but that is as close as they could get as Lock Haven closed out the contest on an 8-2 run and didn't miss a shot from the field.
 
Lock Haven's offense flipped the switch coming out of the locker room in the second half, and shot nearly 60 percent from the field (24-of-34) and 75 percent from three (6-of-8).
 
For the game, the Bald Eagles (52 percent) outshot the Griffins (45 percent), while also holding an advantage in paint points and points-off-turnovers. The Haven forced 20 Seton Hill mishaps, while only committing 13.
 
Lock Haven dished out a season-high 18 assists, while matching season-highs in blocks, field goals and 3-pointers made (9-of-15).
 
The Griffins knocked down 10 trifectas on the night, but finished 10-of-27 as the Lock Haven defense didn't let anything come easy inside.

The Bald Eagles return to the court tomorrow night (Dec. 19) when they visit the 13th-ranked Vulcans of California (Pa.) in a PSAC crossover contest starting at 7:30 p.m.
