GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's basketball team overcame a first-half deficit to secure its eighth straight victory of the season on the road at Seton Hill University, 76-74, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover battle on Monday (Dec. 18).
The Bald Eagles have not lost since their opening game of the season and are now 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC. Lock Haven is off to its best start since opening the 1989-90 season 9-0.
With the loss, Seton Hill drops to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC.
For Lock Haven,
Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) powered the offense with 22 points (9-of-14) and seven rebounds, but it was once again her efforts on defense that led the way. The back-to-back PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week finished with a game-high three blocks and three steals.
Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) also finished in double-figures with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) led the team in rebounding, pulling in nine, with four on the offensive glass.
Carly Fitzmorris (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII),
Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and
Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) each chipped in eight points, while Lawyer tied the team-lead of four assists.
Trailing 41-36 coming out of the break, the Bald Eagles outscored Seton Hill, 15-9, in the third quarter to lead 56-45 heading into the final period. Lock Haven held the Griffins to 21 percent (3-of-14) shooting from the floor, while knocking down 64 percent (7-of-11) of its own shots.
Both teams shot over 50 percent in the fourth quarter and Seton Hill began to claw its way back to set up an exciting finish.
The final two minutes turned into a free-throw contest and the Bald Eagles knocked down 5-of-6 attempts to keep the Griffins at bay, before Jordan drilled a floater in the lane to put Lock Haven up 73-69 with 36 seconds to go.
However, on the ensuing possession, the Griffins took just two seconds off the clock before cutting the deficit to 73-71 with a layup.
Robinson drilled a pair of free throws to extend the Lock Haven lead to 75-71, but the Griffins drilled a trifecta with four seconds remaining to cut their deficit back to one.
However, Evans went 1-of-2 at the charity stripe and an unsuccessful offensive trip for Seton Hill on the final possession sealed the 76-74 victory for Lock Haven.
