WILMINGTON, Del. – The Lock Haven softball team (1-1) opened their season today with a road doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom (6-2) in non-conference action. The Bald Eagles and Lightning split the day evenly after LHU took home an extra innings battle to open their 2023 slate.

Game 1: W, 2-1 (9 inn.)

In the opening game of the season, Lock Haven fell behind early in what turned out to be av pitcher's duel. The Lightning struck first in the third inning, but that was all they managed off of the junior
Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run).

The Bald Eagles returning All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) outfielder
Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) provided both RBI's for LHU on the day, including a sixth inning single to tie things up.

In the top of the ninth, Good struck again with a groundout to second base which brought home the game-winning run in
Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua).

Waltman started on the mound and locked things down, pitching all nine innings and allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out five.
Â
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) and
Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) paced the LHU offense and each notched two of the Bald Eagles seven hits in the opener.
Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) also grabbed hits in the winning effort.

Game 2: L, 6-2

In game two, the Lighting racked up 12 hits and six runs, including a three-run sixth inning which sealed the win for the home team.

LHU got runs in the fifth and seventh as
Morgan Karasek (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) knocked in both of the Bald Eagle runs. Karasek launched her first home run of the season and also laced a double in a 2-3 day at the plate.

Good collected two more hits in the second leg of the doubleheader, while Peters, Arrigale and
Maci Brodzina        (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone Area) collected one base hit each as LHU once again tallied seven total hits.

Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) started in the circle and pitched five full innings before being relieved by
Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) in the sixth.

The Bald Eagles head to the Bear Bash II hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne for a four-game weekend tournament from Friday (Feb. 24) through Saturday (Feb. 25).
