LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's tennis team will open a new era and the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule at home on Wednesday, March 29 versus Shepherd University on the LHU Tennis Courts. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
The Bald Eagles will usher in a new era under the direction of newly-appointed head coach Pete Wert. Wert was named Lock Haven's new tennis coach on Jan. 19.
Wert is a Lock Haven native and longtime local coach. Prior to accepting the job at The Haven, Wert, a local middle school teacher, served as the head girls tennis coach at nearby Central Mountain High School (Mill Hall, Pa.), and in 2010, he took over as head coach of the boys high school program at Central Mountain. He led the teams to a number of successes.
The match with Shepherd on Wed., March 29 is the first of the spring season, and overall, it's one of eight dual matches scheduled for the spring slate. All eight scheduled matches are against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents and three are slated for home.
Following the match with Shepherd, Lock Haven will hit the road for a PSAC dual vs. Millersville on Saturday, April 1. The Bald Eagles next home match will come on Tuesday, April 4 vs. Bloomsburg. The full 2022-23 LHU tennis schedule – which is subject to change – is available at GoLHU.com.
During fall play, Lock Haven went an impressive 4-1 in dual action. The Bald Eagles recorded victories over Penn State Altoona, Lycoming, Susquehanna, and Penn College.
Maddy Reeves led the way in the fall, and she was 4-1 in those duals while playing at No. 1 singles.
Mia Shuler was 4-1 (No. 2) as well, and
Olivia Anastos (No. 3) went 3-2 in those five duals.
Delani Wolever, one of three seniors listed on the spring roster, went 3-1 during the fall slate.
Caitlyn Dale,
Ellie Flynn,
Mary Kathryn Hillman,
Christy McLean, and
Olivia Sharp round out the current roster, a roster that certainly has some strong local ties. The roster features two Lock Haven natives that played at Central Mountain High School. The Bald Eagles also have three players from nearby Lycoming County.
