Men’s Soccer & East Stroudsburg battle to 2-2 PSAC East draw

Bald Eagles open Homecoming Week vs. regionally-ranked ESU Wednesday night. The two perennial PSAC powers battled to thrilling 2-2 draw.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team (2-2-2, 0-1-1 PSAC East) and visiting East Stroudsburg (4-0-2, 1-0-2 PSAC East) battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw tonight in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

Graham Thurley (State College, Pa./Montclair St.) and Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored for the Bald Eagles.

With the draw - ESU, ranked No. 5 in the Atlantic Region, remained unbeaten on the season.

Lock Haven broke open the scoreless draw and took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Thurley tucked the ball home. The goal came off a tremendous build up that saw Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) chip a ball toward the box, before Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) slotted a ball right to Thurley.

Tom Pombor made it 2-0 less than four minutes later when he calmly redirected a ball played in by Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) by ESU goalkeeper Helgi Hermannsson.

Lock Haven led 2-0 at the break, but early in the second half, the Warriors cut the lead to one at 2-1.

It was certainly a tale of two halves as ESU followed up Lock Haven's two-goal first half with two goals of the Warriors' own in the second 45 minutes of play. East Stroudsburg tied the match in the final moments on a header in the 87th minute of play.

Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa. Altoona) was outstanding once again in goal for Lock Haven. He finished with two saves including a spectacular diving stop early in the match.

Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) turned in a notable effort for the Bald Eagles.
