Volleyball rallies for a five-set victory at Bloomsburg

The Bald Eagles traveled to Bloomsburg for a PSAC East match on Friday night and left with a hard-fought victory in five sets.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven volleyball team overcame a six-point deficit in a winner-take-all fifth set in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Bloomsburg and the Bald Eagles downed the Huskies, 3-2 (18-25, 26-24, 25-20, 17-25, 16-14), on Friday night (Oct. 25).

With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg falls to 7-14 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Friday's match kicked off a six-match road trip for the Bald Eagles.

In the deciding set, the Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Bald Eagles rallied to cut the deficit to 12-11 following a kill by Gracelynn Wolzen and a Bloomsburg error.

The Haven refused to relinquish momentum from there, and finished the match on a 5-2 run, capped off by a pair of kills by Alyssa Daley, both set up by Kelly Gaston.

Kelly totaled a match-high 46 and added 20 digs, 2.5 blocks and two aces.

Reagan Irons dominated on both sides of the ball and finished with 13 kills and an ace on offense, while adding 19 digs and .5 blocks on defense. Natalie Acevedo led the defense with 21 digs.

Wolzen led the match with 14 kills, while adding six digs and one block. Daley added 12 kills, three blocks and four digs.

The match was dead even through four sets, with each school winning two sets each to force a winner-take-all final game.

However, Bloomsburg took the fourth set, 25-17, to ignite the final race to 15 points.
