No. 14 Women’s Basketball drops first PSAC contest of season at West Chester

The first-place Bald Eagles fell on the road on Saturday in a tight PSAC contest at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 14 Lock Haven women's basketball team dropped its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game of the season on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 3), 58-49, at West Chester University.

The defeat ends the Bald Eagles historic run of 19 consecutive victories, which is a program-record that will live eternally in Lock Haven women's basketball history.

The greatest regular season in program history, the Bald Eagles are now 19-2 overall and 14-1 in the PSAC.

Lock Haven, who already clinched a berth to the conference tournament, holds a three-game lead over the second-place Golden Rams (16-5, 11-4 PSAC East), with seven games remaining in the regular season.

In a battle of the top two schools in the PSAC East, the game proved to be as advertised for the full 40 minutes, especially on the defensive end.

Each team held one-point leads after the first and second quarter and the game was tied 18-18 at the break.

Lock Haven led 12-11 after one, but both offenses stalled and the defensive intensified to allow West Chester to edge out the Bald Eagles, 7-6 in the second period.

The theme continued in the third, as the Golden Rams held a slight 15-14 advantage to lead by one heading into the final period.

However, the Golden Rams took over in the fourth quarter with a fast start, while holding an 11-2 advantage at the charity stripe to sneak away with the nine-point victory.

The Bald Eagles held a slight advantage in shooting percentage over the Golden Rams, but West Chester knocked down one more trifecta and seven additional free throws to make up the scoring.

For the Bald Eagles, Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) led the way with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) secured her fourth double-double of the season, as she finished with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. The sophomore also blocked three shots, which improved her season total to 53, tying her own single-season block record from her freshman season.

Taylor Leidy led the way in assists, finishing with five. Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) added nine points, eight rebounds and two steals.
