GREENSBURG, Pa. – In a battle of the top-two teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division,
Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) netted the game-winning goal in the final 10 seconds to lift the Lock Haven lacrosse team to a thrilling, 11-10, victory over nationally-ranked Seton Hill, on the road, on Wednesday afternoon (April 3).
Lock Haven (9-1, 4-1 PSAC West) who is off to its best start since 2015, leaped into a tie for first place in the Western Division after matching its conference-win total from all of last season. Lock Haven also ends a seven-game skid against the Griffins.
With the loss, No. 23 Seton Hill (6-4, 4-1 PSAC West) is now tied with Lock Haven for first place in the West.
With the scored tied, 8-8, entering the final 15 minutes, Seton Hill opened the fourth quarter with a goal, before
Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) connected on the equalizer to knot the score with seven minutes to go.
After a scoreless four minutes, Katrinak hooked up with Collins, who gave the Bald Eagles a 10-9 advantage with just over three minutes remaining.
Seton Hill scored a minute later to even the score at 10-10, setting up the dramatic finish.
Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) dished out her team-high third assist to a cutting Collins, who buried the game-winning goal with nine seconds showing on the clock.
Collins was electric all afternoon and led the Bald Eagles' offense with a team-high four goals.
Gunnip and
Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) both scored twice to round out the Bald Eagles with multiple goals.
Gunnip dished out a team-high three assists, while Katrinak and
Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) both scored and dished out two assists.
Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) added a goal.
In the first half, Seton Hill jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after the first period, but Lock Haven responded with a game-high six goals in the second quarter to lead 7-5 heading into halftime.
Lock Haven overcame a 19-5 deficit in draw controls by forcing a game-high 28 turnovers. Seven different Lock Haven players caused multiple turnovers, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.
The Bald Eagles picked up 27 ground balls, led by a game-high six by goalkeeper
Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield).
Mirigliano earned her career-high ninth goalkeeping victory on the season, while making 12 saves against constant pressure from Seton Hill
