Volleyball closes Homecoming Weekend with victory over Kutztown

The Bald Eagles cruised to a PSAC Eastern Division victory versus the Golden Bears on Saturday night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Homecoming weekend finished off with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory for the Lock Haven volleyball team. The Bald Eagles stumped the Kutztown Golden Bears, 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 12-25, 25-23), on Saturday night (Oct. 18).

Madelyn Mitchell paced the Bald Eagles' offense with 16 kills and added two aces on the night.

Gabby Gealey distributed the ball effectively, finishing with 25 assists, while Madelyn Wagner also contributed 18 assists to the team's offensive effort.

Defensively, Olivia Taylor anchored the back line with a team-leading 18 digs.

After Kutztown jumped out to a 21-18 lead in the opening set, Lock Haven stormed back, capitalizing on seven of the final eight points and racking up 17 kills to claim the frame, 25-22.

Riding that momentum, the Bald Eagles took control early in the second set and built a commanding 19-9 advantage behind five kills from Lola Coulter. Three blocks and a pair of aces helped seal a dominant 25-14 win, giving Lock Haven a two-set lead.

After jumping ahead 8-6, Kutztown caught fire, rattling off nine of the next ten points to fend off the shutout and claim the third set, 25-12.

Kutztown opened a 19-13 advantage in the final set, but three kills from Mitchell closed the gap and Reagan Irons solidified the victory with the final slam for the 25-23 victory.

With the victory, Lock Haven improves to 6-14 overall and 4-4 in PSAC play, while Kutztown drops to 10-10 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.
